Zusammenfassung 
 Zum Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland gehören 80 Hektar Wald (etwa zur Hälfte in Nord und Süd). 
 Die intensive Hitze sowie die Trockenheit der vergangenen Jahre führt dazu, dass viele Bäume sich nicht mehr 
gegen Pilze zur Wehr setzen können. Sie sterben. 
 Zu diesen aggressiven Pilzarten zählen insbesondere der Rußrindenpilz (Ahorn) sowie eine aus Ostasien 
eingeschleppte Pilzart, die das Eschentriebsterben verursacht. 
 Lösung ist eine Waldverjüngung. Dafür müssen betroffene Bestände komplett abgeholzt und z. B. durch 
Kirschen, Linden, Trauben-Eschen ersetzt werden. 
 In diesem Jahr sollen in einer ersten Maßnahme etwa 1,5 Hektar in Nord bearbeitet werden. 
 Gerodete Flächen werden direkt mit Forstware (etwa 120 bis 150 cm hoch) aufgeforstet. 
 Zunächst nicht betroffene Bäume werden ebenfalls entfernt, da sie später erkranken, umstürzen und neue 
Kulturen beschädigen können. 
 Das Holz ist aufgrund gesundheitsschädlicher Sporen nicht als Brennholz nutzbar, sondern geht in die 
thermische Verwertung. 
 Künftig ist nach jetzigen Planungen jährlich eine Maßnahme in dieser Größenordnung vorgesehen. 
 Ziel ist es, betroffene Flächen als Wald zu erhalten.

Die Bezirksvertretung Rodenkirchen hatte im Vorfeld bereits Kontakt mit der „Shell 
Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland”. Die Bezirksvertretung Rodenkirchen wurde 
bei einem Ortstermin über das Vorhaben informiert.  
Da die Bezirksvertretung Rodenkirchen eine frühzeitige Information der Bevölkerung 
über die von Shell geplante Maßnahme als sehr wichtig erachtet, wurde die Shell ge-
beten, auch in dieser Sitzung zeitnah zu berichten.  
Das Verfahren wurde vorab mit den Fraktionsvorsitzenden besprochen und abge-
stimmt. 
  
Durch Herrn Bezirksbürgermeister Giesen wurden folgende Vertreter zur heutigen 
Sitzung eingeladen: 
 Jörg Nielsen - Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland 
 Frank Mayer - Wald und Holz NRW - Regionalforstamt Rhein-Sieg-Erft. 
 
Es ist ein Rederecht zu gewähren. Herr Bezirksbürgermeister Giesen lässt über das  
Rederecht abstimmen. 
 
Beschluss:  
 
Die Bezirksvertretung Rodenkirchen erteilt Herrn Nielsen und Herrn Mayer zu TOP 
8.1.10 Rederecht für diese Sitzung.

Sehr geehrte Frau Oberbürgermeisterin, sehr geehrter Herr Bezirksbürgermeister, 
die obigen Fraktionen bitten, den folgenden gemeinsamen Dringlichkeitsantrag auf die Ta-
gesordnung der Sitzung der Bezirksvertretung Rodenkirchen (BV2) am 07.11.2022 zu set-
zen: 
 
Die BV2 bittet di e Shell -Standortleitung, in öffentlicher Sitzung über i hr Vorhaben 
„Geplante Baumfällungen auf dem Werksgelände“ und die Hintergründe zu berichten 
und insbesondere die Notwendigkeit dieser Maßnahme nachvollziehbar darzustellen.  
 
Begründung des Antrags und seiner Dringlichkeit: 
Das Fällen von Bäumen ist heutzutage ein für die Bürgerschaft sehr sensibles Thema. Auf-
grund der aktuellen Ereignisse (Newsletter der Shell am 28.10.2022, sowie Besichtigung der 
Örtlichkeit durch Mitglieder der BV2) ist eine breite und zügige Information der Öffentlichkeit 
geboten.

Umfangreiche Abholzungen im Godorfer Grüngürtel des Energy and 
Chemicals Park Rheinland unvermeidbar 
Köln, 7. November 2022 – Im Godorfer Grüngürtel des Energy and Chemicals Park 
Rheinland müssen zahlreiche Bäume gefällt werden. Die forstwirtschaftlichen Arbeiten 
beginnen noch im November. Die intensive Hitze im Sommer dieses Jahres sowie die 
Trockenheit der vergangenen Jahre haben dazu geführt, dass viele Bäume sich nicht mehr 
gegen bestimmte Pilzarten zur Wehr setzen können. Sie sterben. „Ziel von sukzessiven 
Verjüngungsmaßnahmen ist es nun, unseren Forst nachhaltig zu erhalten“, erläutert Jörg 
Nielsen, Kommunikations-Manager bei Shell. „Wir werden erhebliche Summen aufbringen, 
um unseren Wald mit anderen Baumarten zukunftsfähig zu machen und somit zu erhalten.“ 
Grund für die dafür erforderlichen umfangreichen Fällungen ist ein Pilzbefall. Der Bestand besteht 
zu rund 80 Prozent aus Ahornen und Eschen. Durch die langen Trocken- und Hitzeperioden der 
vergangenen Jahre und den damit verbundenen Wassermangel gerieten insbesondere diese 
Baumkulturen in eine besondere Stresssituation. Unter anderem hatten die Bäume nicht mehr 
genug Kraft, um sich zum Beispiel gegen den sogenannten Rußrindenpilz zu wehren. Dieser sehr 
aggressive Baumpilz führt nun zu einem raschen Absterben der von ihm befallenen Kultur. Eine 
weitere schwere Baumkrankheit ist das Eschentriebsterben, das von einem aus Ostasien 
eingeschleppten Pilz verursacht wird. 
Der Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland wird von etwa 80 Hektar Wald umgeben – die Hälfte 
davon auf Kölner Stadtgebiet. In Godorf müssen nach jetzigen Erkenntnissen in den kommenden 
Jahren auf etwa 20 Hektar zahlreiche Ahorn- und Eschenbäume gefällt werden. Sie werden durch 
Traubeneichen sowie Kirsch- und Lindenbäume ersetzt. Den Auftakt macht in diesem Jahr eine 
Fläche von rund 1,5 Hektar.  
Bei dem Shell Grüngürtel handelt es sich um Wald im Sinne des Landesforstgesetzes. Das 
bedeutet, dass der Landesbetrieb Wald und Holz Nordrhein-Westfalen mit dem hiesigen 
Regionalforstamt Rhein-Sieg-Erft für die nachhaltige Sicherung der Waldeigenschaft zuständig ist. 
Der Landesbetrieb hat Shell deshalb zu der Waldverjüngung geraten und wird für die fachlich und 
rechtlich korrekte Umsetzung sorgen.

Der Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland liegt im Kölner Süden. Bis zu 3.000 Beschäftigte 
produzieren hier rund zehn Prozent des in Deutschland verbrauchten Diesel- und Ottokraftstoffes, 
rund 15 Prozent des Kerosins sowie Produkte für die chemische Industrie. Shell stellt derzeit an
